Briggs Nursing Scholars Program

What is the Briggs Scholars program? The Thomas G. and Mary Link Briggs Memorial Scholarship was established in August 2001 as a result of a significant contribution to the Davidson-Davie Community College Foundation upon the death of Mary L. Briggs. The purpose of the Briggs Scholars program is to allow students in the 2nd year of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program and the LPN to ADN program to focus their energies on program completion by minimizing their needs for employment during enrollment.

What is the award value of the scholarship? The scholarship may be awarded to three second-year students each year. Each scholarship is valued at $3,000 ($1,500 per semester) for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scholarship is intended to assist with tuition, books, fees, supplies, and living expenses to minimize the need for the student to work while enrolled in the 2nd year of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program and LPN to ADN program. This award or some portion of it may be considered taxable income depending on the recipient’s own financial situation.

How do I apply for the scholarship? Scholarship applications are available to all Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and LPN to ADN students who have completed their first year in the program, and will be graduating in either May or July of 2025. Completed applications must be submitted no later than midnight on Monday, September 30, 2024. Applicants also must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for any scholarships through the Davidson-Davie Foundation. Applicants may be interviewed by the selection committee.

What is the deadline for submitting an application? Midnight on Monday, September 30, 2024.

How will the selection be made? After applications are reviewed, the selection committee may interview some applicants. This scholarship is awarded based on academic promise, leadership potential, community involvement, and ability to persevere to a goal; financial need is also a consideration. Decisions will be based on application materials, interviews, past performance, and the FAFSA. The selection committee may consist of Davidson-Davie faculty and staff and members of the Davidson-Davie Foundation Board.

The 2024-2025 FAFSA must be entirely completed (including any verification documents requested from the Financial Aid office) to be considered for this scholarship!
